The Group Has Been Well Known for Their High Quality Sound and Far Reaching Signals Listen to some recordings
W6OBB-ART
Art Bell-W6OBB: Art is a well known late night talk show host, who has been on the cutting edge in delving into subjects that few people have had the guts to tackle. Along with some far out, entertaining guests and stories he has interviewed through the years, lately he has shown a more serious side in taking to the general public airwaves,a leadership role in relating little known technologies, such as BPL, that are being implemented and the dangers associated with this. In my opinion, Art is, a prognosticator, an entertainer, a skeptic, a cynic, a good storyteller, a reader, an instigator, inventor, a writer, a leader, and (if truth were known)down deep "still a little mischievous kid" at heart. While he seems to be those things, he can also be impulsive, an inspiration, and really a very positive person. Going to the forefront in many ways on the commercial broadcast stations. He was one of, if not the first to bring to the public's attention the Y2K problem, and in bringing this to our attention, we were able to get ready and prepare for this. Now faced with BPL and the detrimental affects of this new Internet Technology, Art has taken it upon himself once again to educate the general public to help us all prepare. Check out Art and Ramona's KNYE Radio Station there in Pahrump Nevada.
Art has been a ham many many years since he was 12 years old. He was raised with military parents. He has been in commercial radio broadcasting for quite some time now. And while there are many different things that peak his interest from time to time, still it is amateaur radio that takes first place in his life. His curiosity for this hobby has caused him to carry out a vast number of experiments , using various types of antenna's and different types of equipment. I would venture to say he has done what no other has done before especially with building that Big Loop. His Loop Antenna is at the present time app.3200 ft. in all. Quite amazing. He and his wife Ramona currently reside in Pahrump Nevada which has been his home now for fourteen years.
KN6Z-GLENN
Glen-KN6Z: WOW, This guy, Glen knows so much about astronomy physics, mathematical equations etc., that he just boggles the mind. You would never know under that long flowing mane was such a brain. I just wish I had half the knowledge he has. I believe he has his Phd and MS in many different fields. You can hear the passion and excitement in his voice as he talks about it. I don't think there is much he doesn't know. It is really interesting to hear him when he gets into one of those discussions like ,the history of the universe, black holes, stars planets, etc. He talks like he could have written books on the subjects he speaks on. Einstein, move over. I believe POSSIBLY we've just been given sneak peaks into some of those interesting theories and subjects. To sum it up in very few words, He is a very intelligent fellow with a very WIDE AND EVER GROWING low end.
KD7BCW-BEN
with mother Wanda and Moody's bride Norma
Ben-KD7BCW:Ben is one in a million. A "well seasoned" individual. (pun intended) He has invented his own hot hot barbeque sauce which they all say is just "Out of this World". He is called "Gentle Ben" by some I presume because of his sensitive and caring nature. And that's Ben, you can't help but just love him and that's all there is to it. He is a wonderful soul and the world could use about a million more of him. Although on occasion he has been known to stick his habanero's to unsuspecting visitors. He resides in Salem, Oregon and is not " married" at the present time. His past involves the music industry. He spent the better part of his life in production, setting up sound stages, and traveling all around the country with just a plethora of artist and groups. He also had the privaledge of knowing Karen Carpenter "back in the day". What stories he could tell. He just recently was voted by his ham friends and fans as "Amateur of the Year" 2004, which is a well deserved recognition for all the work he has put into the group throughout the year. He is the 3.840 internet postman for the group, so he is very busy with that as well as doing very high qualities recordings of the group.
W7LW-MAC
Mac-W7LW: Now Mac is a wonderful guy. He has a lot of drive and determination to get it done and it shows. He is not a "johnny come lately ham" This guy knows his stuff and has been a part of ham radio for a very long time. I would say "he is a natural-born ham " You can tell that he really, really loves ham radio as much or more than most. Currently Mac and his lady are looking for land and a place to live where he will not be restricted in getting the best darn antenna up and using the biggest amp with the most power without offending any neighbors. (UPDATE: Mac sold everything and moved to Melba Idaho, where he is leasing out some of his land to a cattle owner, and has all kinds of room to do anything he desires namely, play radio, build exciting grandeose antenna's and boom his power as high as it can go. Yes Mac certainly has no problems now and is free as a bird. Some may call him "Mighty Mac", but I call him "Captain" . He's been around the block many times, and he knows just what to do in many circumstances. He's certainly a do-er and not just a big talker. Mighty Mac cannot be put down, through adversity of any kind, he keeps on going. What an example, for us all to follow. He gets the job done. I think we all marvel at Mac's gusto and tenacity. Check out Mighty Mac's Website Here He has lots of pictures. Also be sure and check out Mac's 7th Calvary Page
KC0HLX-TIM
Tim-KC0HLX: Tim is really a swell guy..and a "big wheeling" trucker....
During the night you might hear him give a big low "oh yeah, or a high sounding "well". The latter "well" sound can usually ALWAYS make it through the static even when propagation is poor. This roving "somewhere out there" truck driver is always on a run. He is one of the nicest truck drivers you would ever want to meet. He has been with this group for a long time now. It has always been a highlight of the evening for him to call in to the group. It's exciting for them to hear from him since they never know where he might be from one night to the next. He gives them a report about the weather conditions, and even in the winter time with snow and ice on the ground, you wouldn't believe how many times Tim is still out there on the snow covered highways getting the delivery to Salt Lake, Barstow, and making those runs. During those times, sitting here in our nice warm cozy homes, you have to greatly respect and appreciate Tim and what he does to keep America moving. Of late he and his wife have also gotten into the real estate business so he really has his hands full and he has to wear many hats. Thanks Tim we do appreciate you very much. I believe Tim has met just about all of the 3840 group in person by now. He is as nice a fellow as you would ever want to meet.

WQ6I-MOODY
Moody-WQ6I: Moody is a veteran ham who doesn't get "on the air" a lot but when he does, he always has nothing but "positive" good things to say. A very upbeat kind of fellow. He is a traveling man and he's always on the road going somewhere for some reason. He usually makes a treck out to the "Indian Reservation" at least once a year. It is located somewhere out in the desert. I am not sure if he can tell us where that place is, but I hope we will hear more about those experiences in the future. That is something I would just LOVE to do. He has a great big RV and he enjoys getting out and being with people...Going to ham gatherings, and social events. Moody is the current secretary of W.A.R.F.A. which stands for Western Amateaur Friendship Association. A very likeable guy and it seems that he likes being with people more than most of the others in the group. I believe he is really enjoying his life these days. He is blessed with a healthy attitude about life and a wonderful spirit. He makes me want to sell everything and hit the road myself. It has really been interesting hearing from him.
K6LDO
DAVE-K6LDO: Where do I start with this low-keyed vvvvvvery easy going Dude? He lives in los Angeles California pretty close to the Burbank boys I believe. He has taken part in activities involving training for emergencies in the Los Angeles area. I am not sure the name of the group though. I call him the CW Man, because he loves CW more than anyone I ever talked to before. I guess you could call it a "passion" for him. I think he spends a lot of time playing with his passion. It doesn't take you long to realize that Dave is a wonderful fellow who has a rare, and(almost innocent-like) disposition and child-like qualities about him.
He is a respiratory therapist and works at many different locations from time to time which takes him away from his home and causes many long hours on the road traveling to and from his destination. He is a very nice guy single guy. Not sure if he has been married in the past or not. But he seems to immensely enjoy working with nurses very much and considers some as very close and special friends. Very very laid back slow easy going. Sometimes he has spaced out sortof way about him, which is ok. I think he is just a very relaxed kind of fellow and just hearing him talk "on the air" can put one in a state of sleep, sometimes.........LOL.
Seriously, you couldn't ask for a nicer warm guy than Dave, who has no problem laughing at himself and having a great time on the radio. I believe we could all learn a lot from this one crazy dude, ALTHOUGH, the last little escapade of " Dave's sharing " of his personal grooming habits was almost too much for me.
VE7RF-JIMBO
Jimbo-VE7RF: Jimbo is a full fledged, full-blooded Canadian who when he comes on will rumble your speakers from the width and bass sound of his rig. This guy is usually never at a loss for words either and always has something to say. Yes you know when Jimbo gets on the air and despite his battle with city officials in getting permissions to put up a new and better antenna, still he doesn't give up. You have to respect his determination in this respect. And with his unusual sound, he is never mistaken for someone else. His distinct sound is all his own and he doesn't share it with anyone else. To get the total experience of his sound, You really have to hear him on the Pahrump Receiver , or have a wider filter on your radio. With this, you would think it would be too overpowering, but its just the opposite, really, he has a soothing wide sound that still has a kindof softness to it even though he is possibly the lowest sounding low-ender in the group and for sure he is the widest one. To top it off, most nights his signal reaches way out, to where I live in Tennessee...now that's going a long long way which is simply amazing. And I've enjoyed talking to him sometimes even until after the sun comes up here in the morning. He's got a big rig setup there in Vancouver and you can view a slideshow of what he's got going HERE

KI6GU
Jim Ki6gu- What about this guy? Well, he was sometimes known to be the life of the party on 3.840 some of the time. And first let me say that he was a very innovative and creative individual. Many times He played devil's advocate, and on very rare occasion an angel of mercy to some extent. In those fleeting moments his more sensitive side showed its face , ever so briefly but it was there, though it was a rare thing. He had been around for as long as I had been listening to the group, and I found that he always welcomed a chance to debate an issue, belief, or point of view, about anything. A lot of people call him GU as in goo from his callsign. As a SWL , more than likely, you have both loved and despised GU at some point. This is normal here.
I believe it would be impossible to know exactly what went on in that head of his, possibly he was like most of us, he loves ham radio and enjoys having fun. But the poor guy admitedly went overboard with both too many times. He carried with him an ego about the size of Texas, but he will never would admit it to others or himself. He was both talented and creative he had been known to put these to good use. Yes, He had many difficulties with getting along with people in the past, but on those nights when he opened up his telephone line for callers to call in on 3.840, he made us believe that that he was a pretty nice and relatively normal guy somewhere underneath. He was a pretty good actor I must say.
And of course, instantly we were impressed with his strong demanding signal and his big fat bottom low end sound that only can be fully appreciated on a wide 6kz wide receiver. His radio of choice for the base station, was the MkV fully Moded and The Behringer rack gear. Exactly what he did to get his signal out from coast to coast was one thing that was not really understood, and requires deeper study, since this single unattached 40 something guy, lives in Los Angeles, Burbank California, in an apartment complex with his big orange dog, Spit. (It was interesting to follow the "adventures of GU and Spit". There was a time when GU had the Gout, just after Spit had some kind of health problem where he couldn't walk either, and Gu had to carry the large heavy animal up many flights of stairs.) And although his living quarters were somewhat small and cramped, he still found a way to put up a simple inverted V antenna which served to get his strong Burbank signal to the eastern part of the US. We will probably not soon forget him.
